Our Clinic

At Subiaco Physiotherapy, we have created a network of physiotherapists and allied health professionals who share an obvious enthusiasm, passion, and dedication to what they do.

At the heart of our philosophy is client-centred care; where we take our time to understand each client, their goals, and their beliefs about their condition. From here, we develop and implement treatment plans of the highest quality in order to help them achieve their goals.

We use our brand-new private treatment rooms and a purpose-built rehabilitation gym to deliver care of the highest quality at our convenient Hay Street location. Our practices are driven by the most up-to-date evidence, and we use the latest technology to deliver optimal results. Dave Dawes

Dave is the director and founder of Subiaco Physiotherapy. He has over 15 years’ experience working in private practice and professional sport.

  • Seven years in professional sport
  • Expertise in running-related injuries
  • Running tragic & proud father of three

Dave completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at La Trobe in 2006 and more recently completed his Graduate Certificate in Sports Physiotherapy.

Dave was, until recently, the head physio at the Western Force Rugby Club; a role which included diagnosis, treatment, and exercise prescription for the professional rugby players during the week and being on the sidelines on game day. He really enjoyed being involved with an elite sports medical and conditioning team and being at the cutting edge of the profession.

Dave also spent four years between 2011 and 2015 working in the AFL for North Melbourne Football Club in the role of full-time senior physiotherapist. In this time, the sports medical team at the Kangaroos was responsible for the club having the lowest soft tissue injury rate in the AFL. His sporting experience has had him travelling both nationally and internationally with various teams.

Over the past 15 years, Dave has developed his clinical expertise and become adept at diagnosing and managing a wide range of spinal and sporting conditions and injuries.

He takes an active approach to rehabilitation – whether it be post-operative care, management of an acute injury or an ongoing problem, he will provide tailored exercises and tools specific to you that will help increase the speed of your recovery and prevent the risk of re-injury.

Outside of work, he is the proud father of three young children, and spends as much time as possible with them and his wife. He is passionate about running, currently training for and completing marathons and ultra-marathons (just for fun!)

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the common questions we get asked about the services we provide, payment options & our clinic location.

If you have any more questions or need any further help, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Yes, provided that your level of cover includes physiotherapy, you can claim your private health benefits on-the-spot and only have to pay the gap. This amount varies significantly between health funds and policies, so we suggest checking with your insurer first.

Whilst we can process these claims on the day of your appointment using our HICAPS machine, if you forget your card then you can pay the full amount then claim a portion of it back from your insurer.

No, you generally don’t require a GP referral to see a physiotherapist. We are highly experienced in musculoskeletal management and are often your GP’s most recommended health care professionals.

The exception to this is if you’ve been injured in a Workplace accident (Worker’s Comp) or in a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) and require physiotherapy as a result of these injuries. In this case, you will require a GP referral if it is under an insurance claim.

Yes we do.

Enhanced Primary Care Plans are an initiative by the Government to help people with persistent pain access physiotherapy, in which Medicare will contribute significantly to the cost of the session. There is still an out-of-pocket expense that will be incurred by the client of between $45 and $60 per visit.

Please remember to bring your GP referral and Medicare card to these visits.

Yes, there is paid parking directly out the front of the clinic. There is also free one hour parking on the corner of Forrest and Denis St, and free parking on Forrest St nearby.

It’s worth arriving at your appointment a few minutes early to allow time to get a parking location that suits you best.
